FAQ
Q: What is Xeko?
A: Xeko is a card game with a fairly simple set of rules that can be learned in 30 minutes. Following is some text from the official Learn-to-Play Guide:
Your Mission:
Become a Xeko Master and help restore balance to the Earth's ecosystems.
These Xeko Learn-to-Play Guides will teach you and a friend the basics of Xeko After spending about 30 minutes in a guided game, you'll have the hang of it. Then you can collect cards to create your custom Xeko deck and become a Xeko Master!
The Object of the Game:
Earn Eco-points by managing limited ecological resources and creating a powerful Xeko-system.
The player with the most Eco-points wins the game!
This guide is included in the starter sets. What follows is a step by step play guide with table mat and presorted starter decks for two players that will walk you through every aspect of the first 11 turns. By the time you complete those you can finish the game on your own. Once you play one more quick one on your own with those starter decks you'll be ready to add in some boosters and start shooting for various themes and strategies. Be careful, once this initial 30 minutes investment is made, you will be hooked!
Q: How old do you have to be to play Xeko?
A: Xeko can be played by children as young as 8 in its simplest forms, however in my experience young adults ages 13 - 30 are better equipped to understand the strategy involved. There is a lot of simple adding and subtracting of small numbers so technically the average fifth grader could handle that but the true strategy of this game goes far far beyond that. Deck building and balancing, timing of key cards, species, link themes and general strategy all go very deep which provides adults with plenty to keep their minds busy.
Q: Do I need to buy a starter deck to play Xeko?
A: No, you don't need a starter to play however if you don't have a means of learning the rules we highly suggest buying a starter to get yourself up and running and an official copy of a rule book.
Q: Can Madagascar and Costa Rica cards be played together?
A: Absolutely, not only can they be played together but some cards actually reward you for mixing your decks such as the Africanized Bee. All Xeko cards from what will eventually become 34 hotspots can be used together. New hotspots may introduce new game mechanics (i.e. Migrate, Morph, Ferocity, Sneak, etc) but this in no way excludes older cards from being used in your decks.
Q: How many Xeko cards do I need to play?
A: Officially decks must be 40 cards or less, equal in size to the opposing deck and must not contain more than 3 copies of any one card.
Q: What is the official turn sequence?
A: Each turn has six steps:
1) Draw one card
2) SUNRISE effects
3) Play one Xeko card (optional)
4) Play one Species card (optional)
5) Turf War (conditional)
6) SUNSET effects
Q: Do I need a Paypal account to checkout?
A: No you do not need a Paypal account. Paypal will accept all major credit cards, we do this so we do not need to ever collect your billing information. If you happen to have a Paypal account you can certainly use that also.
Q: When will the next Hotspot be released and what will it be?
A: We have no idea, The Matter Group is keeping this secret very close to the chest, but when it is released we have a feeling a media campaign will immediately follow so we'll all find out together.
Q: How many different sketch cards are there?
A: We have no idea at this point but we have inquired about this and will post it here as soon as we know.
Q: Will you carry Hairy the plush toy?
A: Absolutely, he's far too cute to pass on. We will not only carry Hairy when he is released, we are committed to carrying any and all Xeko merchandise that the Matter Group produces. We will be your one stop shop for all Xeko gear.
